The rabu hoteru (ラ ブホテル), a.k.a. “Love Hotel”, is a hotel that offer rooms for short periods of time. You can rent a room for a minimum of one to three hours during the day, called a “rest”, or for the whole night, called a “stay”. The main purpose of love hotels is to provide couples with an easy and anonymous room to spend some undisturbed, “quality” time together.The guests usually choose a room on a board by pressing a button and then pay at a little window where the receptionist behind cannot be seen. These hotels are usually found close to stations, near highways on the city outskirts, or in industrial districts. Love hotel architecture is often themed, with buildings shaped like castles, boats, or decorated as if it were Christmas.
